I realized quite a bit tonight while painting this one. First of all I reduced my palette to just primaries and white. I normally mix secondaries, but I didn't tonight. After blocking in the masses with local colors and placing in a few trees I scraped the board down using my palette knife. This only removed the excess paint, the values and colors were still intact. At this point it was just a matter of playing with color combinations and tempatures. On my palette, I mixed my color in one pool starting thin and ending thick. I would "bend" the pool of color by added more blue, or more red, or more yellow, or a touch of white to get the right saturation, intensity, and value.
