Heroically enduring a wicked sunburn but finally submitting to an afternoon downpour, I decided to finish this painting another day. Although, I like the direction these plein air paintings are starting to take. I will post more later.

I bought a few new brushes today (Four #8 rounds and two #10 flats). I quickly blocked in the painting with the two flats, just concentrating on the light and dark patterns. Then I forced myself to hold and use all four rounds. Dividing up the brushes to colors is a huge time saver and it helped to keep my colors clean.

Painting in plein air is becoming an obsession. Well maybe more like a very much looked forward to part of my day. With the extra hours of daylight, I have enough time after work to make it to the square and set up a painting. Capturing the fleeting light is very challenging, but the people I meet are a welcomed change to my usual isolation.

8 x 6 in - Oil on Board - June 1, 2008These last two painting may look a little familiar. I decided to repaint these two to test out my newly upgraded palette. I recently bit the bullet and purchased new oil paints. My new palette consists of: Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow light, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt blue, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre, Viridian, and Titanium White.

Oh and I also recently completed that commission painting I have been working for the last few weeks. I will post the image soon. And I will start posting more new work more often.
